Santi sees snow for the first time
So we've had some unusual weather - for both Seattle and for this time of year! We got some snow on Monday and Santi was excited to see it!

Santi's 8 month letter
11/15/10
Dear Santiago:
You are now eight months old! Just as we’d said we couldn’t believe how the past months have flown by, this one has as well! You’ve changed so much in a short amount of time!
You are now crawling! Well, it’s more of a pull and drag. You’re doing an army crawl on one side of your body and drag the other side. You’re fast though even though you’re dragging half your body! And you seem really thrilled with yourself that you can get from one area to another when you’re on the floor! We’ve baby proofed and moved furniture around but we need to install some gates to keep you out of the dining room, which we’ll be tackling soon. Until then, we can’t leave the room at all!
You are eating more solid foods and less pureed foods. You’ve had: bread (toasted and regular), Crescent rolls, meatloaf, chicken, peppers, carrots, peas, corn, pea pods, tomatoes, pear pieces, cereal puffs, yogurt melts, and you’ll soon have turkey and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving! You also are getting the hang of your sippy cup and can drink from it as long as we help you hold it up.
You also have 5 teeth now! All four of the middle bottom teeth have come in and one of your top middle teeth has broken through!
Here are some of the things you’re doing this month:
• Crawling in your pull and drag crawl
• Going from a sitting to a laying down position by sort of throwing your body to the side
• Babbling more and more. We here more “words” although we’re not counting them as your real words yet – we’ve heard Daddy, Dada, Mama, and Baby although we’re not making them your first official word. Mostly you just say “Babababa”
• Letting us know you’re frustrated by squealing or screaming
• Becoming more steady when we stand you up
• Pulling up in your crib on a regular basis. Also wanting to pull up on the coffee table and the couch but you haven’t quite figured that out
• Taking baths in the bathtub! You outgrew your baby bathtub so you’re in the real tub now. We’ve got some bath toys for you too which you find a lot of fun
• Wearing Size 3 diapers – we’re double diapering you at night because you have been peeing through them
• Wearing size 6-9 month pants, 6-12 month shirts, 9 and 12 month onesies (although the 12 month ones are still a little long in the sleeves) (In Carter’s brand you’re all 12 month size)
• Wearing size 3 shoes
• Wearing size 6-12 month hats
• Eating about 6 oz per feeding in three bottles a day and one nursing session
• Having formula mixed in with mom’s milk (mostly formula since mom’s not really pumping any longer)
• Burping big burps now
• Becoming more loving with mommy and daddy when we hold you. You’ll snuggle into us if someone says hi and you’re being shy
• Waving hello and goodbye on a pretty consistent basis
• Sleep on your tummy basically all the time. We put you down on your back but if you’re awake you immediately roll over onto your tummy
Every day seems to bring you doing something different lately. We miss you so much during the time we’re away and race home to hold you and play with you. Mommy’s looking into being a stay at home mom after her work contract ends, so hopefully she can stay home and play with you! We can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this month!

Bouncing fun!
So we got Santi a "Johnny Jump Up" because our boy LOVES to jump! We didn't know how much he'd like it! See for yourself!

Halloween recap
Before Halloween, we had to take some photos of our "pumpkin" in his first Halloween shirt and his pumpkin hat:
We made it through our first Halloween! We ended up going to the next town over to the celebration they had there, where kids could trick or treat to businesses. Santi was dressed up as a dragon, and we had to carry him the whole way because with his costume, we couldn't get him into his stroller (we could have but we would have had to readjust the straps which is too much of a pain to redo!) So we lugged our 20lb dragon around town! Santi got a lot of treats (well, Tito and I did, and we split it with my brother Sean and Tito's dad.)

San Diego recap Day 5 (Final Day!)
On our last day in San Diego, I had to go to UCSD for some tests. I was taking part in a study for adult patients who had KD. After the study, we decided to go to Old Town San Diego for lunch and some sightseeing.

Our boy loves anything musical, including a maraca! This came home with us and he loves playing it now!

A Peruvian in disguise...
We went wine tasting and the people actually bred Peruvian paso horses, so we chatted with them about that as well for a bit.
Red wine, sippy cup with apple juice, baby food and white wine...so different

Improvising with no changing table
Where we had lunch - Casa del Reyes - where if you're Latino or anything but white, they sit you in the back! Seriously, Tito overheard the manager talking to the hostess in Spanish who we were sitting right by, up front, near the entrance of the outdoor restaurant. The manager looked at Tito and said "This guy is Mexican, what is he doing sitting up here?" So Tito went up to the hostess and clarified that he was Peruvian and that I was American, and that he had understood what they were saying since he spoke Spanish. We then watched over the course of 45 mins while everyone who wasn't white was sat in the back of the restaurant...some sort of funky reverse racism happening in this place.
After lunch, we decided to head to the car rental place to return the car and get to the airport a little early. Our flight was at 5pm and we got onto the plane, got settled and Santi promptly fell asleep and slept for the entire flight! It was a great trip and we can't wait to go back again!

San Diego recap - Day 4
On the 4th day in San Diego, we decided to head to SeaWorld. It was another super hot day (close to 100 degrees) so we were prepared with our water and our spray bottle!
We got there right when the park opened so we were treated to seeing the flamingos being herded through the park!

Dolphin show which I watched alone because it was too hot for Santi to sit in the sun
Pilot whales
After the dolphin show we headed over to see the Shamu show. By the time we got there there were no shaded areas available, so we ended up going into this covered walkway which is the handicap viewing area. We stood in front of a crack in the wall where there was a breeze coming through.

It was so hot we stripped him down to his onesie. He finally fell asleep!
While Santi slept we went into the Living Ocean exhibit to soak up some air conditioning!
So hot and sweaty!
We also hit up the penguin exhibit because it had AC!
We managed to score seats in the shade for the Pets Rule show - Santi loved the birds that flew overhead!

As we were getting ready to leave for the day we got lost in the park trying to find the exit. I looked up at one point and saw Elmo and Big Bird sitting on a stage in a meet and greet. With no line. Since it was Monday the park wasn't super busy, and I pulled Santi out of the stroller and was up on the stage before Tito even knew what was happening. I tossed him the camera and told him to snap away!
After a couple of shots, the lady taking the official photos asked me if I wanted to have some shots of Santi alone with Elmo - a nice hint to "get out of the shot lady!" :)
Santi LOVED Elmo. We don't let him watch tv but occasionally I've put up a few Elmo videos on YouTube for him or on my Ipod. He always smiles when he sees Elmo. So when he saw a life size version, he started smiling and giggling and then grabbed onto Elmo's fur and wouldn't let go (as evidenced in the above photo!)

We checked into our new hotel and then headed to the San Diego Zoo. It was hot that day - it said 84 as a prediction but it was in the 90's. Poor Santi in his stroller it was like a hot box. So we promptly bought one of those fan mist sprayers and used it on him.

After the zoo we headed back to hotel and had dinner at a local sports pub nearby. Santi had a TON of energy and was bouncing off the walls during the meal!
