What's Gaby eating?

We recently started Gaby on solid foods! She's on purees, just like Santi was, and she LOVES it all, but definitely has  her favorites! Since I did a post on what Santi was eating, I thought I would share what Gaby has as favorites too!

So far, she's tried: blueberries, mango, pears, applesauce, bananas, peas, carrots, yogurt, corn, and chicken. We also mix them together and she loves blueberry pear, mango banana, and blueberry banana as well as what we call "peacorn"...which is just peas and corn mixed together.

We have an electric food mill from Kidco that we received as a gift from my cousin and aunt when we had Santi which is great.

Kidco Babysteps Electric Food Mill

Easy to use, and easy to clean (very important with young kiddos around!) It's dishwasher safe and makes for a quick clean up.

We also have OXO Tot food containers to store the purees in and the Fresh Baby ice cube trays with lids (we use the Fresh Baby trays to freeze the cubes for later use.)

Here are some of Gaby's favorites:

Blueberry/Pear Puree

Ingredients:
1 cup of blueberries (I use fresh right now since it's berry season, but you can use frozen as well)
1 pear peeled and sliced into cubes

Directions:
Place blueberries in a saucepan and heat on low until berries start opening and releasing juice. Add to food mill along with pear cubes. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until desired consistency. Place in individual containers or ice cube trays to store.

Banana/Mango Puree

Ingredients:
1-2 whole bananas, broken into pieces
1 mango, peeled and sliced into cubes

Place mango pieces and banana pieces into food mill and blend on high for 1-2 minutes until desired consistency. You may add 1 tbsp. water or so if desired. Place in individual containers or ice cube trays to store.

PeaCorn

Ingredients:
1 cup frozen corn
1 cup frozen peas
2-3 tbsp. water

Directions:
Place corn and peas in saucepan and add 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil and cook for 5-6 minutes. Strain peas and corn and place into food mill with 2-3 tbsp. of water. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until desired consistency. Place in individual containers or ice cube trays to store.

Gaby's 4 month letter

5/28/12

Dear Gabriela:

You are now 4 months old!! You have become such a happy and smiley baby! Sometimes when you first wake up, you will catch our eye and just smile at us. It makes it hard not to laugh when it’s 3am and I’m feeding you when you give me your little smile!

You’ve gotten so strong and can sit up in the exersaucer now without any help! You’ve also discovered how to play with some of the toys on it and Santi likes to help you play with the toys too.

You still won’t take a bottle. And you’ve pretty much given up on the pacifier except as a chew toy. We think you’re getting your I-teeth in, which will be interesting as you’ll look like a vampire if that happens!

Here are some more things that you’re doing:

  • Holding your head up during tummy time all the way off of the floor.
  • Starting to roll over, although you’re just like your brother and are rolling from your back to your front rather than your front to your back!
  • Staring at your hands all the time!
  • Wearing mostly 3 month sized clothes, some 3-6 although they are a little large for you!
  • Wearing size 1-2 diapers, and have finally moved up in snaps from the tiniest size in your cloth diapers.
  • Sleeping in your crib about 7-9 hours a night and you wake about 1-2 times a night.

We are enjoying every moment we spend with you and seeing you grow, change and learn! We fall more and more in love with you every day, and can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

With her big brother - and we're potty training, which is why he's in underwear. And the fireman's jacket...well, you know you need one on to potty train, right? :)

Gaby's three month letter

4/28/12

Dear Gabriela:

You are now three months old!! You are still sleeping on your sleep wedge, and you are still taking your medication, but it seems to be working. You are holding up your head on your own and have sat in your Bebe Pod chair a bunch of times now. You like to sit in it on the table with us when we have dinner together.

You love to be held. If we aren’t holding you then we aren’t engaging with you, you think. So we keep you happy by holding you as much as we can. You don’t care if you’re facing us, you just like to be in our arms.

We haven’t been able to get you to take a bottle very easily, so it’s hard for Mommy to leave you for an extended amount of time. We’ve been working on getting a routine down with you and you’ll nap in the afternoons now when your brother is napping.

Here are some more things that you’re doing:

  • You have become a very happy baby. You love to smile and laugh at us, even though you don’t have any sound with your laughs yet!
  • You are a good napper, especially in the morning. You will sleep for a couple of hours when we’re out and about and about the same amount in the afternoon.
  • You’re very vocal and like to “talk” to us quite a bit.
  • You’re now wearing 0-3 month clothes consistently and some 3 month sized clothes.
  • Your little thighs have filled out and you have some great rolls on them!
  • You definitely recognize us when you see us and if someone else is holding you, you’ll smile instantly when you see us!
  • You sleep in your crib every night and most naps.
  • You’re sleeping about 7 hours when we first put you down and wake 1-2 times a night.
  • You are a water baby and love getting baths!

You have changed so much in such a short amount of time, but we also can’t believe it’s already been three months! You are such a fun, happy little girl and are really showing us your personality and we are excited to see what’s in store!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
